Many times we get customers inquiring about air domes and curious as to why we don’t offer them. The truth is that air domes cannot even compare to a fabric structure. An air dome is simply inflated fabric. It offers no architectural support whatsoever, where as a fabric structure is just that, a structure. It is combination of parts engineered for strength.
Air domes have no durability. They cannot withstand anything stronger than mild winds, nor do they have any snow load capabilities. They are simply not designed to be used in all climates and certainly not for all seasons. Over the years we have gotten many calls from customers who’ve had to replace their air domes time and time again because they couldn’t deflate them in time before a storm hit. The TFS Fabric Structure on the other hand is so strong it can withstand a minimum of 80mph winds and is designed to shed snow. It is an all weather enclosure that can be constructed anywhere and be left up for any length of time.
Air domes require constant maintenance. They have to be monitored 24/7 and even the slightest error can cause the dome to deflate. As the fabric is not tensioned in any way it can easily be ripped to shreds. Someone must always be aware of current weather conditions in the area and be available to deflate the structure lest it be destroyed. The TFS fabric is tensioned both horizontally and vertically ensuring durability no matter what the weather conditions.
As air domes need to be inflated they are not energy efficient. They require constant power to stay inflated and can cost thousands in utility bills. Once the TFS is installed it requires no additional power. Translucent fabric provides tons of light for working during daylight hours and all doors are manually operated, unless otherwise requested, to save our customers money.
Air domes also have no internal support so they can’t bear any overhead accessories. The TFS is designed to be outfitted with any type of accessories imaginable. It can be equipped with lighting, HVAC, audio visual equipment, ventilation, etc.
Overall an air dome can’t compare to a fabric structure. Fabric structures are stronger, longer lasting, more energy efficient, less maintenance, and are a more complete building as they can be outfitted like a permanent structure.
